Ajax were seconds away from a dream Champions League final but Lucas Moura's last-gasp strike sent the English side to Madrid

One of Ajax's biggest stars, Frenkie de Jong, was understandably upset after his side failed to made it to the Champions League final. Seconds away from another trip to Madrid to face Liverpool, de Jong watched in horror as Lucas Moura scored a goal in the fifth minute of injury time to break Ajax hearts.

De Jong, who will join FC Barcelona in the summer, said this at the end of the epic contest. "The defeat couldn't be more painful," the midfielder told Fox Sports. "We started well but in the second half they changed their system and improved whilst we didn't. You noticed a bit of fear in our play after it went to 2-1, then we steadied ourselves at 2-2 but we lost in the final seconds."

"I believe we deserved to reach the final, more so if you consider the season we've had, but they had more luck. I'm disappointed not to reach the final after being so close."

A somber de Jong concluded by saying: "Tomorrow will be a difficult day, although I hope with the time the wounds will heal."
