Deulofeu opened the scoring and Suarez and Messi also scored

Denis and Busquets were on target, too, as Alcacer missed a penalty

Barcelona closed their preseason with a 5-0 win against Chapecoense, with the real action just around the corner. Real Madrid visit Camp Nou on Sunday for the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup.

The goals were shared out at Camp Nou. Gerard Deulofeu scored the first and then laid on the next two for Sergio Busquets and Lionel Messi respectively.

Luis Suarez added the fourth after the break and Denis Suarez scored the fifth, before Paco Alcacer missed a late penalty which had been won by Nelson Semedo.

Ernesto Valverde once again took the chance to make 11 changes, utilising as many players as possible, although Arda Turan, surprisingly, was not one of them.

However, this game was about more than Barca in all honesty. Chapecoense were invited after their plane crashed on route to a game in Colombia last year, 71 people dying.

Just three players survived the crash and they were all present at Camp Nou, Alan Ruschel even able to make his first appearance since the accident and captain his side. He came off after 35 minutes to a standing ovation.

Two other survivors, meanwhile, Neto and Jackson Follmann were unable to play a part, but they both took an honorary kick off before the game at Camp Nou.

It was emotional, not just for the players, but also for many of the 60,000 plus crowd at Camp Nou.

Sometime people can get caught up in the world of football. But Monday’s game provided some perspective. It wasn’t about Barca’s 5-0 win, it was about honouring the fallen and helping to rebuild Chapecoense.
