The club are not happy with all the off field attention and problems he is bringing

Barcelona are worried about the latest news stories involving Gerard Pique, especially those which have damaged his public image, like about being denounced by the Guardia Urbana for driving without a valid license, but also those about having produced the documentary about Antoine Griezmann deciding not to sign for Barcelona.

At the club they think Pique’s off-field behaviour could hurt the club’s image at a delicate moment, just after the player renewed his contract until 2022, and above all, joined the ranks of the club captains along with Messi, Busquets and Sergi Roberto.

“It’s part of a person’s private life and he will have to resolve it himself,” said Barca spokesman Josep Vives when asked about Pique turning up to training on an electric bicycle that, due to its weight, could be concidedered a motorcycle.

The club will not punish him for the traffic problems. “You can’t punish him twice for the same thing,” said Vives.

However the club thinks Pique has gone too far in recent months with his links to poker, playing in various tournaments, his traffic penalties, and the Griezmann case.

In this sense Mestre said: “The intervention of Pique in this case (Griezmann) generated sadness and bad feeling in he club. We will speak to him after he comes back from the World Cup.”

Pique was also in the news for traveling to the USA, Orlando, in August to participate in the International Tennis Federation meeting to discuss his plans to reform the Davis Cup, although he had permission from the club to go.

The club are uncomfortable for the image Pique has given off the pitch. They think he should stop hurting the club. Valverde said he has spoke to the player and Pique told him that his performances would not be affected by his extra-curricular activities.
