Barcelona are fined for late night Spotify Camp Nou renovation work

The work was being carried out in hours not permitted by the local government

Barcelona City Council has been able to verify that the complaints from Les Corts residents that the complaints about timetable for the remodelling work on Spotify Camp Nou are well-founded.

Two municipal inspections in recent weeks have verified that work was being carried out at hours that were not permitted and have initiated a sanctioning procedure.

As confirmed to EL PERIÓDICO, part of the Prensa Ibérica group, Barcelona City Council has issued "two fines for non-compliance with the timetables for the remodelling work at the Camp Nou."

Five days ago, on the night of Thursday 14 to Friday 15 September, the council found workers working on the site in Les Corts: "Between midnight and one in the morning, an inspection of the works was carried out and unauthorised activity was detected," according to municipal sources.

A resident who lives next to the Camp Nou was able to record a bulldozer circulating loaded at one o'clock in the morning, illuminated by a powerful spotlight. As can be heard in the recording, provided to EL PERIÓDICO, the rattling of the machine reached the houses, at a time when it is usually completely quiet in this neighbourhood.

The second fine imposed on Barça is the result of another inspection, this one carried out in August, which also "detected work outside the hours" permitted by law. As a result of the two inspections carried out, "the Guardia Urbana has issued two fines of up to 300 euros each," according to the council.

At the same time, Jaume Collboni's government assures that "it is working with FC Barcelona to resolve these breaches" and says that "in the next few days" it will convene a meeting with the residents of the area to clarify any doubts and "provide all the necessary explanations".

In conversation with this newspaper, the club replied that it is "aware" of these two fines and stresses that it is "in conversation at all times with the Town Hall to improve and coordinate."

The club also announced that it will "soon" open a "round" of meetings with neighbourhood associations in the area: "There will be dialogue to resolve any incidents."
