Barcelona announce decision to appeal Lionel Messi's booking vs. Sevilla

The Catalan club do not agree with the decision taken by Jaime Latre at the Sanchez Pizjuan

Lionel Messi was booked in the 82nd minute of Barcelona’s win against Sevilla. According to referee Jaime Latre it was for “delaying his exit from the pitch to [put his boot back on] with the aim of wasting time.”

The reality, however, was different. Messi had been fouled by Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi. The former Stoke City man stepped on his boot and broke it. When Messi, sat on the pitch, tried to put his boot back on he couldn’t as it was broken.

Jaime Latre interpreted that as time wasting and while ordering him to leave the pitch, booked him.

Barcelona have announced that they will appeal the booking though, leaving it to the Competition Committee, which is curiously formed by three Real Madrid fans, to make the final decision on the caution.
