Barcelona and Sergi Roberto soon to start contract talks
The midfielder's deal is up in June 2022 but he wants to stay and Barca want him
FC Barcelona and Sergi Roberto seem set to reach a deal. The club want to renew him and he would like to stay. Negotiations have not yet begun but both sides have a common interest and in the coming weeks formal contact will happen.
The midfielder slash defender has a contract until 2022, so the club want to get him on a new contract by this summer. They don’t want him to walk away for free next year.
However neither party thinks it would come to that. He’s the club’s fourth captain, behind Leo Messi, Gerard Pique and Sergio Busquets, and he is open to negotiate conscious of the economic context.
Barcelona would reward him with more years to compensate for his lower salary. When fit he’s an important player for Ronald Koeman because of his versatility and consistency.
Mateu Alemany, Laporta’s right hand man when it comes to negotiations, will be in charge of reaching a deal with the player’s agent, Josep Maria Orobitg.
