Barcelona alert to the Robert Lewandowski option this summer

| sport

The Polish striker could leave Bayern because they have not renewed his deal yet

Exploring the low-cost market to improve the other areas and signing a top-level striker was Barcelona’s plan. They need to reinforce the squad for next season and the strategy was clear. However, football can be unpredictable.

It’s no secret that Erling Haaland is the priority for Barcelona next summer. Joan Laporta has been working on that and will do until the end. Competition for the Norwegian, however is strong. Manchester City lead the race, Real Madrid are interested too despite Kylian Mbappe’s planned arrival.

Barcelona will look at other names if they can’t get Haaland, with Alexander Isak, Karim Adeyemi and Lautaro Martinez on the list, and Robert Lewandowski too.

The Polish striker turns 34 in August and is out of contract with Bayern in 2023. He has not started negotiating a renewal yet. He wants to clear up his future but has not heard anything from the German giants.

Despite having a more veteran profile than the aforementioned forwards, goals keep flowing for him. He has scored 42 goals run 35 games this season, a barbarity. Bayern do not like paying too much when it comes to negotiating renewals - see David Alaba - but they will have to make an effort for Lewandowski.

Barcelona are alert to the situation, even though signing him would be complicated. The No 9 position will be reinforced this summer, one way or another at Camp Nou.
