The Argentine is out of contract in June and would arrive for free

Barcelona are back in the race for Sergio Aguero. After several days of reflection, the Blaugrana have decided to try and sign the Argentine forward, although they won't go crazy to bring him to Camp Nou.

They will make an offer, although Aguero will have to fit in to the club's new financial limits if he wants to end his European career in Catalonia. The operation is underway and the player will decide his destiny in the coming weeks, although Barça are well positioned.

Manchester City confirmed in March that Aguero will leave when his contract expires this summer. He wants to look for a new challenge in Europe and his people have started to listen to offers, although the dream is to play alongside Lionel Messi at Barça, even if it's just for one season.

The possible arrival of Aguero wouldn't necessary rule out the signing of another elite striker.

Aguero has a two-year deal on the table from Juventus. The Serie A side are ready to pay almost 10 million euros a season, helped by the tax laws that exist in Italy. It's a big salary, albeit less than he's been earning at City.

Barça won't go that high because they're trying to reduce their wage bill. The idea is to convince him with a salary more dependent performances. Aguero's had a lot of fitness issues this season, although he now seems to have overcome them and is ready to begin a new project. His dream is to return to Spain, where he played for Atletico Madrid years ago.

His friendship with Messi plays into Barça's favour. His signing takes on extra emphasis in that sense as it could be a wink towards Messi renewing. It's evident he'd feel much more at home with Aguero around.

For Barça, Aguero's a market opportunity. He would arrive for free and has always performed at the top level. In the weeks leading up to the presidential election, Laporta learned of Aguero's interest in coming to Barça, but decided not to make a move. Now, the race has started and Barça have confirmed their interest in the player.

Barça are seeking a more experienced attacker to help the squad throughout the season. Koeman wants to add goals to the attack and a player of Aguero's standing could help in big games. Barça also want a top No.9 with a big future in the game. They met with Haaland and are well positioned with Lautaro Martinez. Let's see if there's the money for a signing at that level.
