Messi was taken off with an arm injury and the club have confirmed he will be out for three weeks, missing next week's Clasico against Real Madrid.

The Argentine had already set up the opening goal for Philippe Coutinho and scored Barça's second when he was taken off after clashing with Franco Vazquez and landing awkwardly.

Luis Suarez added Barça's third after the break but not before a fine double save from Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Moments after the German's heroics, Suarez broke through, winning and converting a penalty to put Barça seemingly out of sight.

Sevilla pulled one back via a deflected Pablo Sarabia effort but Ivan Rakitic wrapped up the three points late on.

There was still time for another brilliant double stop from Ter Stegen and a late consolation from Luis Muriel.

Barça move to the top of La Liga again, ahead of Alaves, with Sevilla, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid all dropping points this weekend.
