Barcelona 3-0 Elche: Messi leads the way at Camp Nou

The Argentine hit a double and helped create the third

In the end it was easy for Barcelona and three very nicely worked goals did the trick.

The key in each? Lionel Messi, of course. He scored the first two and played a role in the third, although Martin Braithwaite, Frenkie de Jong and Jordi Alba also deserve credit.

The first half was a drab affair without too much to write home about, but things changed quickly after the break.

Messi struck in the 48th minute, dribbling well into the box, feeding Braithwaite, who backheeled to him, and then stroking home.

The second followed 20 minutes later, another masterful assist, this time from De Jong. The Dutchman charged forward, a full 50 yards, then laid off to Messi, who calmly finished after a clever bit of footwork.

The third goal came when Messi’s fine ball into the box was knocked back to Alba by Braithwaite and the left back finished well.

Pedri deserves credit for his continuously impressive performances in the engine room and Barca can consider this a good bounce back from the Cadiz draw at the weekend.

Beat Sevilla on Saturday and that really will be something give them credit for.
