Saturday's Copa del Rey final will be the sixth showpiece meeting between the sides

Barcelona and Sevilla meet in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday 21 April at the Wanda Metropolitano.

It will be be the second Copa final between the two clubs and the sixth final in all competitions (the teams have also met in two Spanish Super Cups and two UEFA Super Cups) and Barça have a far better record, winning four of the finals compared to Sevilla’s solitary triumph.

The only Sevilla win came in the UEFA Super Cup in 2006 in Montecarlo, when they beat Frank Rijkaard’s side, containing Ronaldinho and Deco. The Andalusians, then coached by Juande Ramos, ran away 3-0 winners with goals from Renato, Kanouté and Maresca.

The Catalans got revenge in the same competition, winning an epic game in 2015 in Tiblisi 5-4 after extra-time. Lionel Messi scored twice while Rafinha and Luis Suarez also netted for Barça but Sevilla hit back through Banega, Reyes, Gameiro and Konoplyanka. Barça came out on top after extra-time though with Pedro Rodriguez scoring the vital goal.

Barça also beat Sevilla in a closely fought Copa del Rey final in 2016, winning 2-0 in extra-time with goals by Jordi Alba and Neymar after Javier Mascherano had been sent off early on for the Catalans.

Barça’s two Spanish Super Cup wins came in 2010 and 2016.

Sevilla surprisingly won the first leg at the start of the 2010/11 season, overturning a goal from Zlatan Ibrahimovic to win 3-1 with two strikes from Luis Fabiano and one from Kanoute.

But Pep Guardiola’s side staged an almighty comeback in the second leg at Camp Nou to win 4-0 with Messi scoring a hat-trick and Konko scoring an own goal.

At the start of the 2016/2017 campaign Barça beat Sevilla 2-0 away from home with goals from Luis Suarez and Munir, while at the Camp Nou they won 3-0 with two goals from Arda Turan and one from Messi.
