Barça's Bartomeu says sorry to fans after Roma failure
The president conceded the Italians were far better on Tuesday
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu apologised to the club's fans after the Catalan side were knocked out of the Champions League by Roma.
Bartomeu admitted that Roma "were superior on the pitch" and that it's a hige blow to exit Europe at the quarter-final stage once again.
"I feel bad for the fans," he said. The sadness we have right now… Cograutlations to Roma, to their supporters. We will have to analyse it and get back to La Liga and the Copa del Rey … but it’s a sad day.
"Roma dominated the game, they believed. When you believe, [when] you throw everything forward and [you] give your all, these things can happen.
"They won because they were better. And they beat us all over the pitch, there's no other explanation, although we will have to analyse it. But we’ve seen whats happened on the pitch. I feel bad because we wanted to be in the semifinal, but we didn’t deserve it today."
For the supporters, he said: "The message is that we’re sorry for all Barca fans around the world. We have a good team, a competitive team, but that has not been seen today, that’s it."
