Barca youngster Oriol Busquets is aiming high

Oriol Busquets is planning to get into Barcelona's first team squad next season. The player is working at the training ground with the others who are back from loans to stay in shape. He wants to be part of Quique Setien's plans for the campaign to come.

The Dutch league, where he was playing on loan, ended on April 25 because of coronavirus. He stayed with Twente until then but since returned to Barca. He is a pivote who can also play well as a centre-back. Setien would value this versatility and likes playing out from the back. He will have pre-season with Barca.

He has one more year on his deal, until 2021, with a 200m euro release clause. Despite offers on the table from Valladolid and Alaves, he wants to have a go of it at Barca.

Borussia Monchenlgadbach wanted him too, as did Bordeaux.

Busquets is convinced he can make it here. A transfer with an option to buy back is his preference if he cannot stay at Barca. He went on the Japanese preseason tour before but Valverde used him at right back. He also hopes to go to the Olympics in Tokyo with Spain.
