Barca worried about losing a defender with high potential

| sport

FC Barcelona are watching with concern as they could be left without a promising centre-back they were keeping tabs on. Mika Mármol has impressed at Andorra, where he left last summer on a free transfer from the Blaugrana.

Barça kept an option to buy him back for one million euros or receive 50 per cent of a future sale fee.

Andorra are receiving offers from other Primera Division clubs. Mallorca, Rayo Vallecano or UD Las Palmas are some of the clubs that have been interested in his situation. The Second Division has become too small for him and Mika Mármol's move to the top flight seems inevitable.

Barça making moves

Meanwhile, Barça have reacted to the option of the Andorran side accepting an offer and no longer being able to bring him back. They would earn 50 per cent of the transfer fee, but would lose any future option on the defender.

The club has asked for time before the player makes a decision. Deco has just landed at the club's sporting helm and has been focused on other matters, such as the signing of Ilkay Gündogan, so he has not been able to make a full analysis of all the players who are in the club's orbit.

The centre-back position is covered with Araujo, Koundé, Christensen and the signing of Iñigo Martínez, but the future of Eric Garcia is far from clear. In addition, the physical problems that Araujo and Christensen have shown during the season, as well as Iñigo at Athletic, make it advisable to have another player at the back.

Mika Mármol is a 21-year-old left-sided centre-back, who has stood out under the guidance of Éder Sarabia for his good positioning in defence and quality in bringing out the ball. These skills are highly valued at Barça, where he made his debut in the first team under Xavi Hernández.
