The Dutch midfielder says that he will stay at Ajax.. but at the same time doesn't rule out a move away this summer

Ajax's Dutch midfielder, Frenkie De Jong, became the centre of attention once again when he was asked about his future by FOX Sports. After a meeting with Marc Overmars and his agent the player, who is wanted by Barça, said that he'll probably stay at Ajax. Yet didn't rule out a move away either.

"My plan at the moment is to stay here," De Jong told FOX Sports. "If I say that I'll stay and then I leave, they'll remind me that I said I'd stay. But this is football, everything can change in a day or a week."

These comments almost close the door on a move away but, at the same time, leave it open enough to generate speculation. It all depends what happens in the next few days. The director of football at Ajax, Overmars, reiterated that De Jong is part of the club's plans and he'll help them qualify for the Champions League before looking to win the Dutch league again.

a change of scenery

In case Ajax don't qualify for the Champions League, it might change the club's stance. This could mean that they'd be open to selling the midfielder to Barcelona, although at the moment Ajax consider him a key member of the squad.

If De Jong stays at Ajax this season it could allow the two sides to reach a pact for a future transfer.
