Barça and Seville the only Spanish teams able to win the treble this year

| sport

The two sides meet in the Copa del Rey semifinal on Wednesday night

The Copa del Rey is Barcelona's shortest path to a trophy this season but they're also still alive in La Liga and the Champions League -- like Sevilla.

They're the only two teams that can still dream of the treble. Neither Atletico Madrid nor Real Madrid, eliminated from the Copa, can aspire to win all three.

The other semifinalists in the cup, Levante and Athletic, aren't in Europe and are a long way down the table.

Therefore, the winner of the tie between Barcelona and Sevilla will be the only side in Spain capable of winning the Copa, Liga and Champions League.

The Spanish Supercopa was won by Athletic, so the Basque side could win their own domestic treble, although they're 26 points behind Atletico Madrid.

Not even in Bilbao do they imagine that's possible but they could follow up Supercopa success with two Copa titles in April -- last season's postponed final (coronavirus) and this season's showpiece will be played in the same month.

11 in Europe

In Europe, in addition to Barça and Seville, there are nine other teams that can still win their domestic league and cup as well as the Champions League.

Curiously, Bayern Munich and Liverpool aren't on that list after being knocked out of the cups in Germany and England respectively.

Of the 16 teams left in the Champions League, in addition to Bayern and Liverpool, Real Madrid, Atético and Lazio are out of the treble running.

Therefore, the other 11 teams could all potentially win a treble: Barça, Sevilla, Leipzig, Dortmund, Mönchengladbach, Juventus, Atalanta, Manchester City, Chelsea, Porto and Paris Saint-Germain.
