Barça pushing as hard as possible to sign Ousmane Dembele

The French forward is out of contract in half a year's time

Renewing Ousmane Dembele's contract is an absolute priority for Barcelona. Mateu Alemany has been working with his representatives to that end and although nothing is settled, there is some cause for optimism.

Barça have suggested a contract until 2024 with a fixed salary plus variables and hope to convince the player, who has interest from several top sides - he can move for free in the summer and sign a deal in January. If the player is keen on staying it could all be a lot easier for Barca. He is comfortable in the city.

Barça had thought it was mission impossible but the two sides have come closer together. They want to use variables to give him one of the squad's highest salaries if he stays fit and performs as expected.

Barca hope a deal can be reached next week. They want a definitive answer before January. He could be useful for Xavi, who wants players to operate in wide areas. If he does not want to sign, Barça will try to sell him in January.
