On Wednesday afternoon the ordinary meeting was held at the Auditori 1899 with the FC Barcelona senators, the collegiate and honorary consultative body, made up of thousands of senior members. A total of 106 members attended, who wanted to hear from president Joan Laporta and other directors about the current state of the club.

In his opening speech, the president thanked them for their presence, their "commitment and loyalty" to the club and their "ability to understand the complicated and successful situations" that the club has experienced throughout its history.

Barça can register

In addition, Laporta praised the importance of LaLiga's approval of the club's viability plan as "it will allow us to register important players for the project" and also to strengthen "to continue to be competitive."

Afterwards, Laporta took stock of the season, which he described as "good." He said: "The sporting season has been good, we have achieved our main objective, the league, and this has been the coach's merit. Xavi, with his effort and work, has contributed enormously to our success. And of course the players, the other architects of the success."

He also had words of praise for Jordi Cruyff, who will leave the club on 30 June to embark on a new professional adventure.

"We wish him all the best," Laporta said. "He has done a great job. And, of course, for Mateu Alemany, who, after announcing his departure, is finally staying on to complete his project at the helm of the club. In conditions of maximum difficulty, he has put a very competitive team in the hands of the coach."

Despite winning the league, Laporta assured that the challenge is to keep improving and that next season they are going for everything.

"We have achieved our objective but we want more," he continued. "I am the first. We are demanding, we are running the best club in the world. We are working hard to strengthen the first team, we want to aspire to everything and participate with a high chance of winning in all competitions."

The Barcelona chief also said he was very "proud" of the women's Champions League success: "They have achieved excellence with effort, hard work, perseverance and commitment. It was a great joy to win the Champions League."

He acknowledged that the inherited high wage bill is not making their work easier, but stressed that they are on the right track by reducing it and that they have no choice but to comply with the League's regulations.

"We have reduced the wage bill but the value of the players has grown," he explained. "We have a more competitive and younger squad. We are on the right track. LaLiga has approved our viability plan for the next two years. We will be able to register players."
