Barça president Laporta meets with Alba to discuss player's future
Alba has a year to run on his contract and would like to stay at Camp Nou
According to 'Jijantes' and 'Relevo', a meeting between FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta and first-team defender Jordi Alba took place on Tuesday and lasted more than three hours.
The meeting was also attended by Laporta's confidant Alejandro Echevarría, while neither Jordi Cruyff nor Mateu Alemany took part in the summit.
Alba is said to have reiterated his intention to continue at the club. But he would have been met with a proposal from Barça.
According to said reports, the club wants to apply a 60% salary reduction and to agree on a two-year deferred payment (without renewal). The player asked to meet Laporta face-to-face after the rumours about his future in recent weeks.
The president was reportedly very clear about his situation in the team. The full-back has seen Alejandro Balde move to become the regular starting left-back. Xavi's intention was that Marcos Alonso would play more regularly as a full-back and not as a centre-back, as has been the case this season.
Laporta also made it clear to him that, in order to stay at the club, he would have to accept this proposal for a significant reduction in salary, as his salary no longer corresponds to his role in the team.

Sources close to the player consulted by SPORT insist on the player's desire to finish his contract with Barça. In this sense, they point out that he has a contract until June 2024.
