How Barca players fared in their international matches

The squad has mainly been out on the road during the break

It’s been a fruitful international break for a lot of Ronald Koeman’s Barcelona players. Six goals were scored by Blaugrana stars, two for Antoine Griezmann, one for Ousmane Dembele, Sergino Dest, Trincao and Pjanic. Frenkie de Jong, meanwhile, was the most heavily used with 270 minutes played out of a possible 270.

TER STEGEN

The goalkeeper only played the third of three games for his country in a shock 2-1 defeat by North Macedonia. The goals weren’t his fault but Neuer’s backers will point to his two clean sheets.

MINGUEZA

The Barcelona defender was unfairly sent off in the U21 clash with Italy. He did not appear after that.

LENGLET

The Frenchman has lost rank with France and only played against Kazakhstan, not against the stronger sides Ukraine and Bosnia. It was a calm match for him, with the opponents not managing a shot on goal.

DE JONG

He played every moment against Turkey, Latvia and Gibraltar. Maybe he will rest against Valladolid, given he’s also on a booking and could miss the Clasico.

JORDI ALBA

Back in the Spain fold after not appearing since Sep 2019, he shone against Georgia and Kosovo, with three assists.

SERGINO DEST

He scored a brilliant goal against Jamaica in a friendly and did well against Northern Ireland, only playing the first half.

PEDRI

Made his Spain debut as a substitute against Greece, played the 90 against Georgia and then 65 against Kosovo. With a maturity far above his 18 years, Pedri showed he’s ready to start for Spain this summer.

BUSQUETS

Didn’t play against Greece but started in the other two, playing well.

RIQUI PUIG

Only had nine minutes as a sub against the Czech Republic. He would surely have expected more of a chance.

PJANIC

The Bosnian played 180 against Finland and France. He missed a penalty but scored the rebound and celebrated angrily. It’s been a tough season for him.

GRIEZMANN

Antoine did well. Started three games for France, scoring in the first and third. His form could help him build confidence and that’s good for Barca.

DEMBELE

The Frenchman returned to the national team, a sub against Ukraine, starter against Kazakhstan and did not play against Bosnia. He scored in the second of those, showing a lot of merit and is likely to go to the Euros.

TRINCAO

The Portuguese, who was with his country’s U21 team, scored against Croatia and also played against Switzerland. He was on the bench against England.
