The payment is related to the fact the Brazilian midfielder has played 25 official matches for Barcelona

FC Barcelona had to make their first additional payment to Liverpool over Philippe Coutinho's move to Barcelona. The midfielder's transfer cost €120m plus another €40m in add-ons.

The first add-on to the English club, €5m in total, is because Coutinho has completed 25 official matches for Barcelona. His 25th match came against Real Valladolid last weekend.

Coutinho played 22 official matches last season and three so far this year. There is no specific amount of minutes the footballer needs to play in order for it to be classed as an appearance.

The Brazilian played 20 matches in LaLiga, 4 in the Copa del Rey and one in the Spanish Super Cup against Sevilla.

The three other agreements between Barça and Liverpool are as follows: €20m when he plays 100 official matches for Barcelona, another €10m if they qualify for the Champions League between 2017/18 and 2022/23, and €5m if he wins the Champions League during that same timeframe.
