Barca and Ousmane Dembele will wait until the summer for contract talks

The pair are calm and want to stop what happened before repeating itself

Ousmane Dembele renewed his deal against the odds in extra-time last summer, with a low release clause.

The club and the player’s people have taken a breath after that tension and won’t speak about the matter again until the end of the season. Dembele is happy at Barcelona and they will try to find a formula that brings calm to everyone.

Barca want him to stay for many years. They consider him a player who can make the difference and Xavi thinks he is key to the project.

The Blaugrana now have a more fluid relationship with his people and the player has gained status in the dressing room after taking a step forward.

He is happy because he’s found form and fitness, becoming key for France at the World Cup too, which was one of his great hopes.

Neither Barca nor Dembele want to repeat what happend before so wont’t wait until the last year of his deal to renew. The option the club might put forward is extending to 2025.

That would give confidence to Dembele and not force Barca into sounding out market options for him next summer.

If he doesn’t renew then Barca may have to try and sell him. They don’t want to but can’t rule it out.

Expect conversations to begin in the spring.
