Barça have made just one offer to Araujo & haven't bettered proposal

| sport

The Uruguay defender has a contract at Camp Nou until 2023

Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez has already said that the contract renewals of Gavi and Ronald Araujo are essential for the club's future.

While Barça have been closing free transfer signings for the summer, with high wages, talks over Araujo's future remain frozen.

Sources close to the talks confirm that Barça have only made one proposal and that in no moment have they improved their offer despite there being no agreement.

Contact could step up in the coming week.

Barça's first offer is low and, therefore, has not been accepted by Araujo's camp. The player would be a long way short in terms of earning of players that have renewed recently and also of players who will sign this summer, like Andreas Christensen from Chelsea.

Barça know Araujo wants to stay and are perhaps playing on that. He doesn't want to leave despite having a big offer from Manchester United.

Araujo is grateful to Barça for giving him his first chance in Europe and to coach Xavi Hernandez who is pushing for him to be renewed.

Let's see what happens in the coming days, but it's clear Barça must increase their offer. If they don't. Araujo could decide to look elsewhere, with Barça's contact with Antoni Rudiger's camp not a good sign for the centre-back, either.
