Barça make contact Rafa Marquez and Sergi Barjuan for La Masia jobs

| sport

The club are working on restructuring the academy following Laporta's election

There's a lot of movement going on behind the scenes at Barcelona's training ground. Under new president Joan Laporta, the club are restructuring the academy and that could involve the appointment of several new people in July. Rafa Márquez and Sergi Barjuan are two of the people that could return to the club under Laporta.

Marquez started his career as a coach last summer with the youth team at RSD Alcala. However, the Mexican ended his contract with the club during Barça's presidential election and he's been linked with a coaching job at La Masia. The former defender maintains a great relationship with Laporta from his playing days and supported his campaign.

Meanwhile, Sergi Barjuan has also been approached about returning to the club but not as a coach. Nothing has been finalised but the idea is that he will serve as a bridge between Barça B and Ronald Koeman's first team. His experience on the bench with Recreativo, Almería and Mallorca would help in that sense.
