The duo left River Plate for only 30m euros between them and now are worth much more

It’s not a good sign that Argentina are champions of the world and have no Barcelona players. Of course there was Lionel Messi, who left for PSG.

It’s not a good sign that the two South American superpowers only had one Barca player - Raphinha - and if you add in Uruguay, then two, with Araujo.

Something is up if Barcelona don’t have hardly any of the World Cup players from perhaps the three biggest creators of exportable talent on the planet.

They are far from the Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez trident peak.

One player Barcelona have looked at is Enzo Fernandez, the Benfica midfielder. He went to Qatar and came back a champion, winning the best young player award, and now it’s nearly impossible to sign him. He joined Benfica for 10m euros.

Another exciting player is Julian Alvarez, who started for Argentina on their run to the final, but Man City signed him for 20m euros last summer.

The two would have cost 30m euros between them from River Plate, a reasonable cost for 21 and 22 year old future stars. Less than the 35m euros that Real Madrid are paying for Endrick, before you even get to the variables.

Barcelona lacked appetite and strategic vision on that front.
