Sergi Palencia’s contract is on the verge of being renewed. In the next few days Barça will announce the player has signed a four year contract. The Catalan is one of the youth team players chosen by Ernesto Valverde to play in the first team, who he has been training with since Wednesday.
“I want to continue developing and learning at Barça and to give everything like I always have done”, Palencia said in a press conference before Barcelona B clinched promotion last season. Despite not figuring in Luis Enrique’s plans, Valverde’s arrival has signalled a change in fortune for the player.
Palencia will be another option for Valverde at right back, a position he will share with Aleix Vidal and a potential new signing. Nelson Semedo, who Barça are negotiating for with Benfica, is currently the main target.
