Barça Dream Team coach Bruins Slot passes away at 73
He worked alongside Johan Cruyff and later with Ronald Koeman
The legendary assistant of Johan Cruyff, Tonny Bruins Slot, has passed away at the age of 73 following a long battle with cancer.
Bruins Slot was a key part of the backroom staff of Barcelona's famous Dream Team in the 1990s and later worked alongside current Barça coach Ronald Koeman, too.
He was diagnosed with cancer in 2016 and his family announced on Monday that he died.
Bruins Slot started as a scout, working on opposition reports under Cruyff, first with Ajax and later with Barça, where he worked alongside Carles Rexach, too.
The Dutchman later worked as the coach of the youth team at PSV Eindhoven before returning to a background role as part of Koeman's coaching staff.
He was the assistant coach under Koeman at Ajax, Benfica, PSV, Valencia and AZ. Since 2010 he had held a scouting role with Ajax.
