The Everton coach explained that he would've preferred a permanent transfer but Barcelona refused to include an option to buy clause

André Gomes is beginning to find his feet at Everton. After spending the first few weeks on the sidelines, the midfielder is now a key member of the first team. In fact his performances have been so good that it's raised the question as to why the English club didn't agree a permanent transfer instead of a loan.

In his latest press conference Marco Silva, Everton manager, revealed that it was Barça who didn't want to include an option to make the move go beyond the initial 12 months. "Of course it would've been better to sign both (Andre Gomes and Zouma) but we know how the market is. In these moments the teams didn't want to sell. Barcelona didn't even want to hear about the possibility of an option to buy. However, they were both good opportunites for us and we needed to do everything in order to build a good squad."

Andre Gomes is currently on a season-long loan deal at Everton. His situation will be looked at again next summer although all signs point to him not returning to the Camp Nou for long.
