The Catalan club could only register three of their four new signings

Barcelona made four signings in January: Dani Alves, Ferran Torres, Adama Traore and Aubameyang. One of the four could not be registered for the Europa League.

With only three new players permitted to be added to the European squads, Xavi Hernandez had to decide which signing to leave out.

In the end, Xavi decided to leave out Alves, who is very grateful for the chance the club gave him to return this season, but did not take the decision well.

Barça opted for Alves because, at 38, he's not necessarily ready for two games per week and the priority is LaLiga.

Ferran Jutgla and Abde were also left unregistered. They don't count as youth players because they have not spent long enough at the club.
