FC Barcelona joined in the celebrations on Catalonia's national day (La Diada Nacional de Catalunya) with president Josep Maria Bartomeu heading a delgation that offered a floral tribute at the Rafael Casanova monument on Sept. 11.

Bartomeu was accompanied by vice presidents Jordi Cardoner and Jordi Moix, as well board members Maria Teixidor, Josep Ramon Vidal-Abarca and Oriol Tomàs. David Bellver, the delegate in charge of relations with UEFA, was also present.

In addition to the institutional presence, first team  players Carles Aleña and Sergi Samper also joined the tribute on Ronda de Sant Pere.

Svetislav Pesic, the coach of the club's basketball team, and basketball player Pau Ribas also took part in the homage, as well as a number of people from the club's other teams.

La Diada commemorates the fall of Barcelona during the War of the Spanish Succession in 1714 and the subsequent loss of Catalan institutions and laws.

Floral tributes are made each year at the monumnet of Casanova, who was the mayor of Barcelona and commander in chief of Catalonia during the siege.
