Awful news for Barcelona B. Oriol Busquets injured the meniscus in his knee in training on Wednesday and will have to undergo surgery. The midfielder from Sant Feliu de Guíxols has said goodbye to the season and will be out for between four and five months.
Oriol Busquets suffered the injury in his left knee during a routine training session and underwent tests immediately at the training ground. The options on the table are to either extract the damaged zone or to reconstruct it. SPORT understand that the second option has been chosen.
However, while that option is best for the long-term, it means a slower recovery. Therefore, he will miss the rest of the season, but will return in better shape. Doctor Ramon Cugat will take charge of the surgery, which will be at the end of this week or, at the latest, the beginning of next week.
It's a huge blow for Barça B and for the midfielder, who has played 22 games this season and has also featured for the first team. His absence could see new signing Marcus McGuane given a chance. The ex-Arsenal youngster plays in a similar holding midfield role, although is a slightly different player.
