Barça B have parted with €13m on new signings whilst Madrid are yet to spend anything

The impact of COVID-19 on football teams spending is plain to see in Spain. That is why you see some curious stats such as Barça B near the top of the transfer spending charts. According to 'El Confidencial', the youth side at Barça have spent more than Real Madrid.

As things stand, Barça B have are 8th on the highest spenders list. They have parted with €13m on Matheus Pereira (8), Gustavo Maia (4.5) and Moussa N'Diaye (0.5).

Barça B have also spent more than Real Betis who, like Real Madrid, are yet to spend a single euro on new signings this summer.

Real Madrid have opted to reincorporate some of the players they loaned out last season (Lunin, Odriozola and Odegaard) rather than splashing the cash. Florentino Perez said this would happen a few months ago:

"This isn't the summer for big signings. I don't know who is going to buy players and I won't judge anyone who doesn't. Everyone must deal with the situation however they can. The clubs who aren't the biggest cover their costs with television deals but we don't. We earn a lot of money through the stadium and with the stadiums empty we're set to lose around 25% of our income."

It's been a strange, strange summer so far.
