Barca's last attempt to sign Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico

The Catalans are hoping to loan him and Balde could go the other way

Barcelona want to bring in Nicolas Tagliafico to give Jordi Alba some competition at left-back for the second half of the season but it’s going to be tough to manage it with 48 hours left to go in the transfer window.

The defender is with the Argentine national team, but before leaving, he agreed with Ajax a deal that could see him leave the club. Both agreed he could go, if Ajax got 7 or 8 million euros for him.

His deal expires in 2023 and Ajax don’t want to let him go for no fee like Onana or Mazraoui, whose contracts are ending next summer.

Ajax would loan him to Barca with an obligatory buy option, but the Catalans would like it to be optional. Marc Overmars’s willingness to negotiate with his former side makes the operation a possibility still.

Barcelona’s economic situation is delicate and they might negotiate a player going the other way as compensation. Alejandro Balde is the name on the table. He’s a B teamer but with good potential and he could get important minutes at Ajax, with Barcelona retaining a buy-back option.

The defender is not the only name linked and negotiations will continue in the hours ahead.
