Barça Atletic lose to Real Madrid Castilla in Mini Clasico playoff thriller

Madrid progressed to the final with a spot in the second division up for grabs

Sergio Arribas scored a controversial stoppage time penalty as Real Madrid Castilla beat Barcelona Atletic 3-0 on Sunday to progress 5-4 on aggregate in the Primera Federacion playoffs.

Arribas struck the winner from the spot after Alpha Dionkou had harshly been adjudged to have handled at a corner.

Carlos Dotor had earlier opened the scoring before former La Masia striker Iker Bravo drew Madrid level in the tie.

Raul Gonzalez's Madrid will now meet Eldense over two legs for a place in the second tier of Spanish football, with Rafa Marquez's Barça missing out on promotion.

First team coach Xavi Hernandez said this week development was the reserve team's priority, not promotion, but defeat in the Mini Clasico will still come as a blow.

Not least because Barça went into the second leg with a 4-2 lead from the first game at the Johan Cruyff last weekend.

Dotor's 21st minute goal brought Madrid back into the tie bit Barça appeared to have control still, with Estanis Pedrola missing a good chance to restore their two-goal lead.

Madrid were always likely to create something the longer the game went on and substitute Bravo, who spent 11 years at Barça's academy, headed in their second goal of the night.

With extra-time looming, Madrid were handed a chance to seal a place in the final when the referee pointed to the spot after Dionkou's handball and Arribas made no mistake.
