The Barça loanee hopes to make his move to the club permanent in the summer

For the first time since Steven Gerrard took over, Aston Villa have lost three games in a row, but instead of worrying and knowing the work he's doing, the former Liverpool man spoke about the transfer market after losing 2-1 to Wolves.

Barcelona loanee Philippe Coutinho played but came off in the 74th minute with the score at 2-0. The Brazilian has played well back in England in general. Villa are happy and, despite having to pay 40 million euros to make the deal permanent, money is unlikely to be a problem.

"Now is not the time to talk about figures and amounts," Gerrard said. "What the owners have done for this club has been phenomenal in terms of the backing.

"I don’t think they’ll change because given the communication I’ve had, they’re very ambitious and they want to win matches, as I do. I think we are aligned from the top of the club to bottom. My close staff all know where we are strong and where we need support.

"We took over a team 16th in the league and we’ve done ever so well to get into a safe position as we stand. We’ve had opportunities to go and grab positions above us but the league doesn’t lie. At the moment there’s a gap to the teams above us."

Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, owners of the club, have invested almost 350 million since 2019 and want to take the club to the next level. Starting with Coutinho, they have also been linked with midfielders Kalvin Phillips and Yves Bissouma.
