Assist king Neymar breaks his own record for the calendar year

The Barça and Brazil star has created more goals this year than in any other of his career

The year 2016 has been a good one for Neymar on the football pitch. The crack, who’s been improving as a goalscorer, has also broken another personal record. This year, he has already provided 32 assists.

With passes to Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at Barcelona and Gabriel Jesus and Philippe Coutinho for Brazil, Neymar has already registered his highest number of assists since becoming a professional. The year 2016 has not yet ended and he has 32 in his 57 games, one more than the 31 in 70 he recorded in 2013, his previous record.

On Wednesday (Nov. 23), in the Champions League game against Celtic (a team he gave four assists against in September), Neymar provided the pass for the first of Messi’s two goals. And it was the assist which broke his record.

He’s currently set up more goals than anyone else has in any edition of the Champions League in this season’s competition alone -- seven in five games. In La Liga, he’s the third top creator, with four assists in his 10 appearances. With Brazil in World Cup qualifying, his numbers read six assists in six games.

“I’m happy yo have achieved that amount and to help my teammates score goals. It doesn’t matter who makes or scores the goals, though, what’s important is winning,” Neymar says about his assists.

In terms of goals, he’s passed the 300 mark in his career this year, scoring 29 times. But 2016 has still not ended and the coming games promise even more from Neymar.
