The Barça defender tried to calm Costa down as he left the pitch

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique was one of the players that had to calm down Diego Costa on Saturday after the Atletico Madrid forward was sent off at Camp Nou by referee Gil Manzano.

After seeing red, Costa reacted in the worst way and had to be controlled by Atletico and Spain teammates past and present, as was the case with Jordi Alba and Gerard Pique.

At first, no one managed it as Costa tried to get at Gil Manzano to fight the decision. In the end, he was calmed down, though, and he left the pitch accompanied by Pique, who had an arm around him.

According to Diario AS, Pique said to Costa: "Be quiet! What do you want? Do you want a four-game ban?"

Pique's words appeared to calm Costa down as he left for the dressing room before returning to watch the game from the Camp Nou stands.

It was goalless when Costa was dismissed in the first half but Barça went on to win 2-0 thanks to late goals from Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.

Ernesto Valverde's side are now 11 points clear at the top of La Liga with just seven games to be played, starting with Huesca next week after Wednesday's Champions League match at Old Trafford against Manchester United.
