Reports say the Catalan club are prepared to pay as much as 110 million euros

Barcelona are ready to make Atletico Madrid a big offer for Saul Niguez. According to Diario AS on Saturday, the Catalans would pay up to 110 million euros for the Spanish miffielder. That fee would make him the most expensive player in the history of Spanish football.

After signing Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong, Barça want to continue adding in the middle of the pitch and one of their objectives is Saul. AS' report says the Atletico man would be their 'galactico' signing of the summer.

Barça's supposed interest in Saul is not new. Two years ago, Barça were hopeful of signing the player before Atleti managed to get him to renew his contract until 2026, increasing his release clause from 80 million to 150 million. Now Barça's interest is said to have returned.

However, Barça are not alone. AS say Chelsea also want him. The English club would be prepared to pay as much as the 150 million clause but a recent transfer ban -- for the next two windows -- could rule them out of the race. That's to say, as the Premier League side appeal, Barça do stand alone in their pursuit.
