The Brazilian midfielder was one of the star performers at Wembley and admitted he was a little nervous before the match began

Arthur Melo made his Champions League debut as a starter on Wednesday night and at the temple of football, Wembley Stadium, no less. "I was a little nervious before the match started because it was such a huge game, a big event. But my teammates helped me remain calm and give my best out on the pitch," said the Brazilian.

The midfielder was a surprise inclusion in Ernesto Valverde's team and Arthur responded in the perfect way. He was one of the best performers on the night.

The way in which Arthur played reminded many of Xavi Hernandez. He was so calm and offered a certain sense of security when the ball was at his feet. Turns, passes and with vision you'd associate with Barça's famous '6'. "I feel so happy when people compare me with Xavi, I've always admired him a lot. He was so important for Barça."

The midfielder praised the work of his teammates during the match. "We needed to be aware throughout the game. We knew when to defend and when to strike on the counter. Tottenham are a strong team at home but we produced a great performance and need to be proud of ourselves."

Although Barça are one of the clear favourites to win the Champions League, Arthur said the team wouldn't be taking anyone lightly. "To be the favourite doesn't guarantee you a title. For that reason we can't stop working and fighting because there are some great teams in this competition."
