Antoine Griezmann signs for Atletico Madrid until 2026
The French forward is back in Simeone's starting XI with the new deal
Antoine Griezmann is now permanently at Atletico Madrid. The Colchonero club agreed a deal with Barcelona and announced it on Monday. The Frenchman signed a deal until 2026.
Atletico did not announce the price but Joan Laporta did, saying it was worth 20m euros to Barcelona, plus 4m in variables. It puts a full stop on what’s been a disaster since he arrived at Camp Nou in 2019 for 120m euros. He won just one Copa del Rey and was loaned back to Atletico last year.
Griezmann has been kept on the bench for much of the season because Atletico tried to worm out of a 40m clause in the deal they they would have to pay if they used him in over a certain number of matches.
Now that problem has been solved by this new 20m deal. Griezmann had to help force it through, with Barcelona and Atletico at loggerheads.
