Andres Iniesta was not 100 per cent to play
The weather conditions and slippery surface caused Valverde to leave him out
It was surprising that Andres Iniesta did not start at Anoeta and was left out of the team for Andre Gomes.
It's true that the Portuguese has done well recently, but Iniesta has been in fine fettle and it was a surprise that he was left out of the line up.
However later Rac1 revaled Iniesta was not 100 per cent ready to play and the bad weather conditions caused Valverde to keep him in reserve, letting Gomes stay on for 79 minutes, before he was relaced by Lucas Digne.
In the press conference after Valvere said: "We have a lot of games now. This was also a game with some special circumstances, such as the wet pitch, the time between the last game... I thought that it would be better to go with Andre Gomes, because La Real have a powerful right side. Andres is fine, he has a little problem, but he's fine and I preferred that he didn't play."
