The captain was thrilled by the performance of young centre-back Marlon who stepped in

Iniesta says he is not thinking about his contract but trying to finish the season well instead

Andres Iniesta, FC Barcelona captain, sent a message after the team’s 4-1 win at Las Palmas. He told Barcelona TV that the club should use more players from La Masia.

“You have to congratulate Marlon on his game, it’s not easy to play in the first team and like he did. It’s not easy to play away from home and in these circumstances,” said the captain of the young centre-back who started in the last minute, replacing the injured Javier Mascherano.

“He did really well. If he plays in the first team it’s because he has quality and now what he has to keep doing is maintain the ambition to improve. You have to hope they keep betting on people formed here.”

HIS FUTURE

Iniesta said: “It’s a circumstance that right now I don’t have in my head. I have a year more here, I am very happy where I am. We will see what happens in the future. I would like that the year to come would be a success in all senses, on a collective level as well as personal, but now we have to finish La Liga, win the Copa and rest to arrive back strongly next season.”

LA LIGA

“We have hit our objective which is to win all the games. We have to exhaust all the options. The chance that Madrid might slip up is still there, but it’s hard not do depend on our own results. That’s the big circumstance. They have two games, we have one. We have to be there until the last moment.”
