Andres Iniesta: I see it difficult for Messi to return to Barca

The future of Lionel Messi is one of the great unknowns for the coming months. Miami? PSG renewal? Return to Barca? The last option Andres Iniesta does not believe is too likely. He spoke to AS in an interview from Japan.

“I see it difficult for Messi to return to Barca,” said the midfielder. “But I am not Leo or Laporta, and I cannot predict what happens in the future, as much as I would like it, he has to like it, and look at it if the chance comes.”

Iniesta does think his former midfield pal is doing well at the reins of Barca.

“Since Xavi came the evolution has been positive and the current squad is very complete in all areas, but things happen and the Champions League is decided by details. They could have beaten Bayern and Inter but it didn’t happen.

“Speaking of failure is relative, I don’t like this word, because they tried as hard as they could. It’s a disappointment and more so adding on to all those that have happened in recent years.

“I don’t know why this has happened but it’s evident that some things are not being done well, or well enough, to change the dynamic. I’ve suffered heavy defeats too, the last of those in Rome. Those are the details of which I speak, that decide games and matches that we did not know how to control. The sensation is that we lacked a step to cross the border we’ve been stuck at recently.”
