Analysis of Barcelona's five possible rivals in the Champions League draw

Bayern Munich are the team to avoid while PSG will also pose a threat to Luis Enrique's side

Barcelona will learn their last 16 opponent in the Champions League on Monday. The draw will take place in Lyon and the possible rivals for Luis Enrique's side are: PSG (France), Benfica (Portugal), Bayern Munich (Germany), Bayer Leverkusen (Germany) and Porto (Portugal).

On paper, the toughest draw is Bayern, who lead the Bundesliga with 33 points, level with RB Leipzig. Carlo Ancelotti's side have won 10 of their 14 games, drawing three and losing one.

PSG would be another complicated rival and are a side to avoid. Unai Emery's side are not doing as well as expected in Ligue 1 at the moment, but have experienced and dangerous players in Cavani, Lucas Moura, Thiago Silva, Ben Arfa...

In theory, Benfica, Porto and Leverksuen represent 'easier' rivals. However, the two Portuguese are in the top three in the Primeira Liga, although the latter are half way down the Bundesliga.

The draw is not pure and there are rules. There will be two pots, one of group winners, another of runner-up. No team can play teams from the same country or qualifying group, so Barça avoid Real Madrid, Manchester City and Sevilla.

Group winners will play the first leg at home and the second away. The ties will be played over the following dates: 14, 15, 21, 22 February (first legs) and 7, 8, 14, 15 March (second legs). Dates for each tie will be confirmed after the draw.

The quarter-final draw will then take place on 17 March.
