Alvaro Morata reveals Chelsea wanted to make him most expensive Spaniard ever

The Real Madrid forward re-joined the club from Juventus this summer but could have gone to the Premier League

Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata has revealed that Chelsea tried to sign him this summer.

The Spain international rejoined Los Blancos following two years at Juventus, but he’s told German newspaper Sport Bild that the Premier League club tried to sign him for 70 million euros.

“Chelsea were the team most interested in me,” he said. “Antonio Conte had signed me for Juve and it was a great offer. I’d have been the most expensive Spanish player in history.

“[Chelsea] offered 70 million euros, but I was in Real Madrid’s plans by then and it’s always been my dream.”

Fernando Torres, who left Liverpool for Chelsea, is currently the most expensive Spanish player in history.
