All eyes on Pique & Vermaelen as Barça face shortage in defence

Gerard Pique will undergo more tests on Friday

Vermaelen's not played since the Real Betis game

Barcelona will spend the next two days monitoring Gerard Pique and Thomas Vermaelen, the two centre-backs with injury problems.

Both players will be the centre of attention as Ernesto Valverde weighs up whether to use them in Sunday's La Liga match against Getafe at Camp Nou.

Pique will be checked over again by the medical team after playing against Valencia despite picking up a knee problem against Espanyol. Finally, at the Mestalla, he had to be taken off, replaced by Yerry Mina after 82 minutes.

His presence against Getafe is more than doubtful at the moment.

The same could be said for the Belgian Vermaelen, who has not played in two weeks since getting injured against Real Betis. If he's able to train on Friday, he may come into consideration.

JUST Yerry Mina

If both defenders are missing, Valverde will have just one natural centre-back for the game, Mina, who made his debut against Valencia. That's because Samuel Umtiti is suspended.

Therefore, the Barça coach may have to look for alternative solutions, which could include dipping into the B team.
