Alemany's four pressing issues: Araujo, Gavi, Dembele & Sergi Roberto

The Barcelona sporting director needs to resolve the contract situation of a quartet of players

Barcelona sporting director Mateu Alemany has done a great job in his first year in charge. The January signings of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ferran Torres and Adama Traoré despite financial problems have helped turn Barça's season around, but his work never stops.

He has also tied Pedri and Ansu Fati down to new contract but now he has four other issues to deal with: the renewals (or not) or Ronald Araujo, Gavi, Ousmane Dembele and Sergi Roberto.

Here is the state of play with each case:

Key week for Araujo

Araujo said on Sunday he wants to stay at Barça for many years and that he expects meetings to take place soon. This is a key week for his extension. Right now, there's a big gap between the club and his camp because Premier League clubs are prepared to pay much more. The coming days will be vital for one of the lowest-paid players at the club.

Gavi risk?

The agents of the young midfielder want Barça to value his "explosion" for club and country this season. Even though he's only 17, he has burst on to the scene at an elite level and they want him to be paid accordingly. The leaks of Franck Kessie's salary (6.5 million) have not helped in that sense in a dressing room that, in general, is being offered much lower salaries. Some of the best teams in Europe are monitoring Gavi's situation.

Dembele could stay

Ousmane is as unpredictable off the pitch as he is on it. President Joan Laporta says his agents have left him feeling "dizzy." In recent weeks, Dembele's form and commitment has been excellent. He wants to stay. During the international break, Laporta opened the door to talking with his agent, Moussa Sissoko, again. It's important not to forget, though, that there was a huge difference in expectations when talks broke down in January.

Sergi Roberto: no contact

Recent events would suggest it's going to be tough for Sergi Roberto to stay at the club. "He had the chance to renew at the start of the season, when several players reduced their salary," Laporta said. "I don't understand why he didn't accept it. That was the moment." He is out of contract, is one of the captains, and is injured, so won't get the chance to show his form. Xavi would like him to stay but it is looking difficult. There has been no contact between Barça and his agents for a while.
