Until now he had been director of professional sports at the club

Soler will instead focus on basketball, handball and other areas

Barcelona's director of professional sports Albert Soler communicated to president Josep Maria Bartomeu on Monday his desire to leave his role on the football side of the club. Instead, he will focus on the club's other sections. The resignation was accepted by Bartomeu and from Tuesday, Soler will have no responsibility for the football side of the club.

There are two reasons he's taken this decision. Firstly, he's worn out from all the work which comes with working around the first team and the media focus which comes with it; secondly, he wants to take on new challenges, such as the transformation of the EuroLeague in basketball, the creation of a handball team and the Masia 360 project.

Soler's departure adds to Raul Sanllehi's. The two had worked together on transfers and the first team for the last few years but will not be involved in the re-shuffle which Bartomeu is about to announce.
