Adnan Januzaj is a serious alternative to Raphinha
The Belgian winger will not stay at La Real so Barcelona are mulling over his signing
The season is over. It’s time to take decisions about the future. Real Sociedad have announced that neither Monreal nor Adnan Januzaj will stay beyond their contracts which expire in June.
The latter is a surprise, as he had a renewal offer from the club he has spent five years with, but he did not accept. Perhaps because there is some Barcelona interest in him.
The Belgian is liked by the club, who have good reports about him and have followed him for some time. Januzaj, 27, plays out wide and is good on the ball. He fits the Xavi style nicely. Against him, in the reports, are some inconsistency he has shown and also his character.
Januzaj is a set piece expert too, scoring five goals this season in 44 games, and could be a cheap right wing option for Barcelona.
Xavi has counted on Ousmane Dembele and Adama Traore since January. Neither might be there next season.
Raphinha is a target but he will now cost more than the 25m euros that his release clause was if Leeds were relegated.
Owing to the delicate situation of Barcelona’s economy, Januzaj is appealing in the sense he can come for free and money can be spent elsewhere.
