AC Milan have already decided not to exercise option to sign Dest
The USA right-back will return to Barcelona when his loan expires this summer
AC Milan have decided not to exercise their option to buy Sergiño Dest, who has been on loan from Barcelona since the start of this season.
The American player arrived at Barcelona under Ronald Koeman but Xavi decided that it was not necessary to continue with his services.
Dest was loaned to Milan with an option to buy for €20 million. There are two arguments that lead Milan to not want to continue betting on the full-back: On the one hand, the high salary of the player compromises the salary limit of the team and, on the other hand, his performances.
Dest has generated many doubts for coach Pioli: he has played 14 games in total and only four as a starter. His last game was on Jan. 24, when he started against Lazio... and they lost 4-0 in Rome.
Pioli is not using him much and he has plenty of competition. On the left is Theo and on the right are Calabria, Saelemaekers, Messias and Florenzi.
Sergiño Dest will have to return to Barcelona at the end of the season while waiting to find a solution for his future.
He arrived at the age of 19, signed until June 2025 and has a termination clause of 400 million euros. The final price of the deal was €21m fixed plus another €5m in variables.
The club hope to recoup most of the investment and would accept an offer of around €15m.
